A Billion Needs And A Billion Opportunities

Open the door and step out of your house there are over a billion people out there mingling on roads, sitting behind a screen, commuting, relaxing, complaining, looking for their first job, looking for a better job, looking to invest their money, looking to make money, looking to lose weight, looking to gain muscles, looking to look pretty.

Any situation or circumstance you can think of there are a million of them in that exact situation. It’s the perfect time to seek out opportunities for your entrepreneurial quest. A billion people are looking solve their problems. Are you going to solve one of these problems?

According to Wikipedia “India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than 65% below the age of 35. It is expected that, in 2020, the average age of an Indian will be 29 years, compared to 37 for China and 48 for Japan; and, by 2030, India’s dependency ratio should be just over 0.4.”.

No matter which way you turn or who you run into, there are needs to be met. From helping a fresher to get a job, to a senior citizen get his blood checked. A bored house wife bored with a million saas-bahu shows to old couples living alone. A techie tired from work and commute wanting to feel pampered and knock off the fatigue from body and mind, to an affluent couple wanting to be pampered in a resort.

And don’t even get me started on the messy metropolitan cities. More and more people are cramming into the same amount of space. The infrastructure is neither improving nor expanding, but the population of people and vehicles is! What need or a problem do you see that needs to be addressed?

A Billion Needs And A Billion Opportunities Indeed

If a 1000 watt light bulb has lit up in your hungry creative brain, it is time to put it to test and see if it is a good business idea. If you are not too keen on going the e-commerce route you can consider going the local business route. I see many different local businesses popping up from fancy ice cream shops to water tank cleaning to laundry services. Entrepreneurs are going in all directions.

It doesn’t have to be a local business. You can also consider:

1. Entertainment:

Flip to any entertainment channel, you see a familiar scene of dolled up characters with dramatic background music. An evil member(s) conspiring against the rest of the family. What is worse? The 20 and 30 year-olds playing the roles of grandfathers and grandmothers! It is ridiculous! There is a big opportunity to enter the space with some edgy stuff, or some original content full of drama, wit and humour.

2. IT:

With technology advancing at a rapid pace, there is a huge opportunity in this sector.  AI, voice recognition, data science are some promising technologies that can be applied to the needs of a billion people. We are going to generate so much data that data science, predictive analysis are a good field to explore. So is voice recognition, with hundreds of languages and dialects in our country this can be a good option as well. Not to mention AI and machine learning.

3. Self-help:

India has tons of youth facing the debilitating condition of anxiety, poor confidence and low self-esteem. You can have a flourishing business in this field, there is no shortage of youth looking to improve themselves for a career, for marriage etc.

4. Writing:

There are tons of opportunities to write some cool, hard-hitting novels in pretty much all genres. If this is something that interests you, you should definitely give this a shot. I myself have already self-published a non-fiction book.
